I have moved to Iceland in July 2018. In the second half of October, I came back to my hometown, Kraków, to defend my doctoral thesis at the Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts and to prepare my exhibition in Elementarz dla mieszkańców miast art gallery. It was a continuation of one aspect of my thesis, as well as its symbolic end and the beginning of a new phase of my life. I had an idea to convert the art gallery’s attic into a restaurant, just for one night, to have an opportunity to spend more time with people who came there, to talk, to complain, to be happy together. I covered the floor with a thick layer of salt crystals, which imitated ice and made long table tops with Shou Sugi Ban technique. The whole space was bathed in cold, „northern”, dim light. This combination of burnt wood, salt and „ice” perfectly reflected the nature of Iceland. It was an arrangement of space that was an artistic problem of the exhibition. Desserts made by me appeared on the tables. In the theoretical part of my thesis, I write about creativity as a „feast”, referring to its interpretation by Karen Blixen from her book “Babette’s Feast”.
